Bought these to take to Colombia, My favorite navy knit Hanes shorts had had an unfortunate bleach encounter, and I didn't want to look scruffy. These are made of a lightweight cotton duck/canvas material and probably weight slightly less than the knits ones. Certainly they roll up smaller. Got the ones with 6" inseam. Pockets are super deep and run all the way to the hem. Coil zipper and button waist. Legs are roomy. Run just slightly small. Did not shrink when washed. The infamous triangular "PFG" patch, located on the back beltloop, came off uneventfully with a seam ripper. There is an embroidered logo and brand name in left rear (white, on these navy ones). Belt loops handle a 1.5" belt, with a little room. Might possibly handle 1.75", but didn't try. Button right rear pocket is generously deep, but does not run all the way down to the hem. That's a good thing, if you ever hoped to fish your wallet out. Pointer: don't keep your wallet there when traveling, unless you intend to contribute to the Pickpockets' Benevolent Association. One more note: the center rear belt loop is not a normal loop. It is a triangle, wider at the top. It is very hard to feel with your fingers, while wearing the shorts. After airport security, it's hard to re-thread your belt, so I bought a navy colored Rothco web belt and modified it. Since it has a "boy scout" style buckle, you can remove it to throw in the bin and reinstall easily. That leaves only the metal end. I removed that, cut the belt to length, with a few inches to spare, and repeatedly impregnated the end with clear nail polish. When dry, I tried up the end, rounded the corners a little, and sealed with more polish, making a stiff, non-ravelling tongue. At security, buckle comes off, thru the body tray, buckle goes back on. No threading.In college I had one pair of short shorts I loved. After a trade that gave me immediate buyers remorse, I began searching for another pair of shorts that matched the comfort, performance, and versatility as those shorts. After 7 years of searching. Constantly buying and returning. Longing for shorts to caress my thighs the way they deserve. Alas, I found my glass slipper. The pair of shorts built for only the manliest of men. You can reel in a marlin or add a sport coat and rock the best man speech at a wedding. These shorts have it all. I bought 3 pairs. Thank you Columbia for building such a magnificent pair of shorts. My heart is full again.Had to get 2 sizes bigger than i normally wear in the Columbia pants. Fabric has nice color and is lightweight and cool though.Waist fir fine but they were so tapered I looked like I was smuggling a fruit basket. Couldn’t have been more awkward unless I was wearing a freaking cod piece. I have 42s in other Columbia pants that fit fine so I figured I’d be safe ordering a 46 in case it runs small as Amazon stuff is apt to do. Apparently the company has gone nuts with their sizing. If you have trunks, good luck sitting down, don’t drop anything. Waste of time. Returning.My husband loves these. We bought them in multiple colors and they are his new go-to shorts.
