Let's start with what these pants don't have. These pants don't have zippered leg openings and instead have buttons on both the ankle gaiter and outer pant. These don't allow either layer to open up very much and make it very difficult to put them on with shoes on and nearly impossible with boots on. These pants don't have any vents, so while they are breathable if you need to quickly dump heat on a warm day you're out of luck. These pants don't use Columbia's Omni-Heat reflective insulation and instead use the traditional fleece + fill. The pair I saw at the Columbia outlet with the same name/price did use omni-heat, so it was a bummer these didn't. The big down side to this is that the fleece can get wet much easier than the omni-heat material when you're putting them on outside. On to what they do have. These pants are fairly waterproof, I'm not sure what the rating is on them(they're no Gore-Tex) but the first time I used them snowboarding was a rainy day that crept into the 40s and they held up well with only a minimal amount of water managing to force its way through the knees and butt. As for insulation and breathability I've worn them for extended periods in days ranging from the low teens to low 40s and have always been at a comfortable temperature wearing a base layer plus athletic shorts and tall wool socks under them. The inclusion of belt loops, an adjustable waistband and 2 zippered front pockets is nice.I would have spent some extra money on higher performance pants(preferably Gore-Tex) with better features had I known I would be using these as much as I have, but overall they've held up well to my use and abuse. Ohio tends to have warmer temps and wet weather, so these aren't quite water-proof enough if you find yourself sitting or kneeling a lot, but they'll do if you're not sure how much use you'll get out of them or plan on spending most of your time upright.I bought these for my husband. Wasn't sure about sizing so we bought two pair. He is 6'3" and about 225 lbs. The REGULAR length was just perfect. You'd have to be pretty tall to need the tall length. The waist size was tricky though. The Large he could barley get on (over sweatpants) but the XLarge doesn't seem like the waist will synch quite enough. We are sticking with the XL - there are belt loops if needed. Though I hope when he goes to use them, we don't need a belt.**UPDATE**For the price I wasn't happy with the pants that will "hopefully" do. Bought Arctix Men's SnowSports Cargo Pants, Black, XL instead in their regular length and the fit was much, much better.Have been looking for something to wear on my commute to and from work. Live in Buffalo and drive 25 plus miles from North to south of the city. Getting stranded and footing it is something i need to consider here. Outgrew some of my older gear and found these. Size 6'2" 240 lbs 38-42 waste depending on product 34 -36 inseem. Should add with a belly and No butt! Bought the XLT and they fit ok - ordering a 2XLT for abit of extra room. These pants over some quality synthetic underclothes and boots do the trick. Was 0F with a 20 mile wind and I was fine. These to me are modern leggings - I didn't buy them for pockets or bells and whistles just protection from the cold. Run alittle long which I like. Worth the cost and I imagine a size up and fellas could wear them over dress slacks when needed. Very happy with the purchaseLittle big for me at 40 inch waist even at the tightest setting but was able to make it work with a belt. I was in a bit of jam with a planned trip otherwise I might have asked for a size down to see if that would have been a better fit. Only wish there were more pockets and/or a cargo pocket. Pockets are fleece lined but a tad small but I didn't use them much as I used my jacket for storage. Hope this helps. Cheers.Got back into skiiing after a long hiatus and purchased a bunch of new gear. I didn't want to buy junk throw away pants but also did not want to drop $150 on a pair of pants also. Saw these and gave them a go. I was skiing up in Vermont when it was ~10*F with no wind. These pants kept me dry all week-end long and they were fairly warm (mind you I did layer appropriately as well). Snow guard inside the legs prevents any snow from sneaking up the legs if you fall. I'm 5'9 with an atheltic build and a 30-31 waist line (pending on the brand). Small fit me perfect. Might want to get a tad bit bigger if you are heavy on the under layers (like 2-3 on those bitter days) but other than that very happy with my purchase thus far.A little big. I ordered an XL to fit my two layers of clothes under it. I have no problems with the legs but the waist will definitely need a belt. I haven't had a chance to test them since it's 88 degrees here now in July. They look like they are pretty well made and my experience with Columbia will tell me I should get a few years out of them anyway. I gave them a four only because I think the side straps should hem the waist more but overall I am satisfied with this purchase. Finally I found a quality pair of snow pants that fits. I'm just an average man that doesn't have a 28 inch waist and 35 inch legs. I'm a 36" waist and 29 inch leg and i can't believe that is such an unusual size? The waist on these pants is just right and the legs are just a little long. But when I have my snow boots on the length is just about right. The material is excellent and the pants are very warm. Zippers on the pockets are handy too. I've been out and -10 degrees snow shoeing and never felt the cold. Their good and flexible and light so you can really move around without binding. The quality is just what you would expect from Columbia.I recently went skiing in Bulgaria and these were great. Lightweight, comfortable and waterproof.Reasonable amount of built in insulation so did get a bit hot a times, as the temperature was >0.Would highly recommend.good value ski pants. fit pretty close to perfectsin dudarlo lo volvería a comprar, es un pantalón muy muy calentito, lo use en la temporada de invierno en mi ciudad y no tuve ningún problema de sufrir por el frió mientras me transportaba en mi motocicleta, aparte en días de lluvia yo llegaba completamente seco a mi casa, sin lugar a dudas pongo mi confianza en ColumbiaGreat Ski pants for the price. They are rain resistant, but i don't know how they would fair in heavy rain. The sizes are a a bit misleading. So, if you use a large size, i recommend going for Medium with these pants.I love the snow pants. They are not heavy and comfortable. they are also hot, I use them for skiing and sliding with the kids and never get cold or wet.
