My grandmother wanted to get our daughter a new winter coat for the holidays. It worked out as perfect timing because my daughter's old coat (one with the inner liner that comes out) decided to blow a zipper. When looking for a new one for I came to Amazon (hey, I will NOT be going anywhere shopping in person at this time of year .. nope, no way!) and decided on this one for our daughter. Now, she is 6 and solidly wears a size 8 clothing. I went with a size medium (sized 10/12 according to the Columbia website) in hopes of getting more than the rest of this season out of the coat. I ordered it on Sunday, and it arrived today (Thursday) despite not being expected until December 27 - January 4.Couple of things ... right out of the packaging, I got concerned. While the color is nice, for some reason I was expecting a lighter brighter blue. This is more periwinkle I'd say, almost purple. My daughter picked "the blue one" and can be particular on colors of things. This coat feels like nothing. This coat does not feel like a nice warm heavy winter coat. It feels like a lightweight jacket. Add to that, because of the lightweight look to it, it looks small. I was concerned it wouldn't be big enough to grow into at all. Well, my darling daughter knew the package was here and came bounding down the steps being her nosey self and wanted to see (and consequently try on) what was inside. This is where my mind changed.First, she saw the color and was super excited it is "kinda like blue and kinda like purple, my 2 favoritest colors!" and then she unzipped it to find that inside is "kinda like orange and kinda like pink, my other 2 favorite colors!" I guess any concerns on color are out the window, huh? So she put it on. Perfect fit. Just a little big to grow into a bit, but not overly big and bulky. My daughter actually used the words "comfortably roomy." Now, my home isn't kept super warm during the day and we got home before the house really got back up to temp for her, it was maybe 64* in here when she put it on. Within about 2 minutes she had to take it off because it was getting a bit warm for her to be wearing. Although she was twirling and spinning and generally putting the new coat through the paces around the living room. We will have to see how it fairs in these NY winters. I'll be sure to come back and update after we wear it a bit. ;)UPDATE: So my daughter wore this coat to school yesterday and SHE has some feedback:1 - She was cold in the morning on her way to school. (However, she refused to wear hat / scarf / gloves and it was extremely windy. Her chill may have come from not bundling properly.)2 - It was "so tiny to hang on my (her) hook! it didn't take up so much space!" (This was apparently a huge thing for her because her old coat took up so much space in the coat cubby.)3 - She was "super duper warm at recess." (This speaks volumes to me after her chill in the morning, because the playground tends to be a few degrees more extreme - hotter in summer / colder in winter - than the rest of the world. I've yet to figure out how / why this is.)4 - On the way home from school she was nice and comfortable, despite the 31* temperature for that walk. Her hood was up and her hands were in her pockets and there were no complaints, despite the invitation for them.Yep, I'd recommend this coat to others. We are happy. ;) I'm actually looking into getting the same coat style for myself now. ;DBought this for my daughter a couple of months ago. So far it's great!!! It is light weight but very warm. She has been out playing in the snow for hours, tubing, etc and has never complained about being cold. We live in the snow belt of western NY and it's holds up to the weather. She is 5 years old, about 46 lbs and a little tall for her age. The x small fits great with a little room to grow or to put a fleece under if needed (we haven't needed to yet). We paired it with the matching bib snowpants. Great purchase!Just returned from skiing. Kept my 8 year old warm and dry. We ordered a medium since she is usually in a size 10. Fit perfectly. I like the extra length to it too, seems a bit longer than previous ski jackets which is great since my daughter is on the tall side. Would definitely purchase again.Bought a XXS for my average sized 5 years old. It's roomy and the sleeve is a tad long. The velcro on the sleeves help to cinch up the sleeves though. Surprisingly waterproof and she never complained about cold while playing in the snow. Love the jacket but felt it was a bit too short. Don't think it'll last another season.Thinner and lighter than expected. Size is right apart from the hood which is smaller than expected for an M size jacket. My Doughter liked it. It remains to see how really warm it will keep her in Pittsburgh! Then I will add the 5th star.Fantastic coat so far. I bought this for my daughter several months ago. She is is between a size 5 & 6. I went with the small. It's a little baggy on her, but after adding a couple of layers, it fits well. She's been skiing in it several times and has commented how warm she is. Between buying it a bit large and the extendable sleeves, I anticipate she'll be able to wear it two more seasons.Size chart on Columbia's website is not correct! it states that the x-small is a 6/7 and small is an 8. The tag that came with the jacket had a size chart on it and it says that x-small is 6/6X and small is 7/8. (See photo attached) The x-small I originally ordered barely fit our daughter who is in size 6 clothes (long enough but way too tight around the body). Order up a size!Good quality outer ware coat for eight year old grand daughter to use on Mt. Hood for ski lessons. Kept her warm and dry (very important at this age), and she looked pretty cool as well. Good coat at a very fair price considering the quality. She wears it to school now when it is raining. Would recommend it to parents and grand parents for their kids/grand kids.nice and beautiful! Perfert fit 6 years old girl.As a gift for my brother's daughter, She love it.He comprado ya en varias temporadas este anorak.
