I am actually overjoyed that Columbia has not succumbed to vanity sizing for their Silver Ridge shorts. These shorts feature an "athletic" fit, as opposed to the roomier, more relaxed "classic" fit of much of their product line. I am size 24-25 waist (or size 2 in H&M) and the size 2 in these fits me perfectly. The hidden-adjustible elastic waistband is VERY handy for wash-and-wear multiday trips where the shorts expand a little with wear. The 5" length is also very comfortable; not embarassingly short like many "juniors" sized shorts today, but not too long and boyish either!A word of caution: I have these in the dark grey "gravel" color, and recently ordered the same exact size (2x5) in the light tan "fossil" color, and they fit at least one size bigger! For those of you concerned about a tighter fit, if there truly is a size difference between colors, try the Fossil color first. I have the full-length silver ridge pants in Fossil (also size 2) and I can attest to their durability and opacity (they are lighter in color but do not show through even when wet!).I really like these shorts. I know the sizing is a bit strange but since I had a pair of Silver Ridge pants I already had a baseline for sizing. The silver ridge pants I have are a size 10 and are huge on me. I debated going down one or two sizes (6 or 8) and decided to go down two sizes to a 6 because the 10's were sooooo big. The 6 is perfect....I normally wear a 4 or 6 so I do not think the sizing was that far off for me. I ordered the 5" length and find the length perfect (I am 5 5"). I love the pockets and the light weight material of these shorts. I would give these a five star if not for the fact that sizing is difficult....everything else is a five star in my book.I just received both the Grill and Fossil colors and am very happy with the style and fit. From reading many of the other reviews that said the shorts were sized smaller than usual, I would have to disagree. According to the label and the Columbia website these are the modern classic fit which Columbia says are a, "Universal, easy fit for comfortable range of motion." I am 5'7", 130lbs and ordered the size 6. They fit fine with a little extra room from this type of fit, but I think the 4s would have been too small. Love the price for the type of short which are great for hiking, rafting and many other outdoor activities.Like many other reviewers said, the sizing on these shorts is very, very small (at least for the gray "grill" color, 5 in. inseam)! I'm used to having to go up or down a size across various brands or styles, but these are so small that I believe they were mislabeled or manufactured to the wrong specifications. I ordered the largest size out of the sizes I usually wear and could barely get the shorts on, much less have any hope of buttoning them. I think I would need to go up a minimum of two sizes, if not three. Unfortunately, there aren't many sizes left, so I'm out of luck on trying another pair and will just need to return these.If you can find a size that works for you I think these would be great shorts. The fabric is just what I like for outdoor activities because it is cool, comfortable, and dries quick. The color and overall style are great and the adjustable elastic waistband in the back seemed like a nice feature, but there is something going on with the sizing. If you can't buy through Amazon and get guaranteed free returns, then I would be very cautious ordering these.Columbia Women's Silver Ridge Cargo Short, 4, Fossil are OK. The back pockets are not as large as I would have liked. My phone does not fit well. Also, they seem to be sized on the small size. I ordered a 4, and the thighs are a bit tight. I think a 6 would be too big for my waist, so I didn't send the 4 back and get the larger size. I don't think I have large thigh's--the other brand shorts I have that are 4's fit in the waist and the thigh's, so I think these just aren't sized great for me. I do like the material.These are comfortable! I was worried about these being too small but they fit nicely.. A lot of reviewers say to go two sizes up, but I only need to go one size up (I am normally a size 6). I went to the store and tried on some different kinds of Columbia pants and the size 8 consistently fit well. So, I went with size 8. These are loose enough so it is easy to bend and move around. They are quick drying and very lightweight. I am taking these with me on my trip to Belize. I don't know if this helps, but I am 5' 3 1/2", 128 lbs., and am somewhat curvy and the size 8 fits well. I recommend these!Great shorts. I love the zipper pockets. Great for storing my phone and cash while hiking, biking, and geocaching.I am thin and I believe I ordered these in a size 4. A little too restricting in the waist, so I leave the top bottom undone. Not a problem really since there are two buttons and a zipper. Other than that, I am happy with my purchase.These shorts look great! If you are considering buying these shorts, i'd buy a size larger than you normally wear in other brands. I am generally a size six but I couldn't get these shorts up over my hips, much less even try to zip them. I ordered Columbia's Bonehead shorts in a size six also, they arrived at the same time and those were also too small. They would have been awesome shorts if they'd fit.Huge for size 12 - don't think they are correctly sized. Might be a continental sizing?Great comfy shortsgood!Auf Grund der Rezension vom 20. Mai 2016 bestellt - wirklich die perfekte Wanderhose für mich (bin 162 cm groß).Der Stoff ist sehr leicht und atmungsaktiv, die eingenähten Knöpfe am Gummiband sind genial um die Hose bei Bedarf enger zu machen (falls ich keinen Gürtel tragen will).Größe 10 paßt für Konf.Gr. 38/40 perfekt.Der Artikel selber ist sehr schön! Praktisch und leicht. Allerdings fällt er mindestens zwei Größen kleiner aus, als ich bestellt habe. Daher muss er leider retour gehen.
